(AUDIO) Waterloo Revival Plays Homage To Austin Music Scene With Name

Waterloo Revival, the duo featuring George Birge on lead vocals and guitar and Cody Cooper on lead guitar and backing vocals, reveals that their name is a bit of a Texas history lesson. Cody explains, “George and I grew up in Austin … and Austin was originally called Waterloo, Texas, back when the capital was down in what’s now Houston. Then they moved the capital to Austin and renamed the city after Stephen F. Austin, which is how it got its current name.”

Cody says they chose the name Waterloo Revival because, “We wanted to kind of pay homage to the city of Austin and its heritage, and wanted to try to make it a mission to bring the Austin music scene as a main staple toward the world, so we decided to call ourselves Waterloo Revival.”

Waterloo Revival just released their debut single, “Hit the Road,” which is available now here.

Waterloo Revival – how get the name :38
Cody Cooper – “Well George and I grew up in Austin and definitely fell in love with the music scene here, it’s great. There’s so many amazing players, everyone’s so supportive of each other and Austin was originally called Waterloo, Texas, back when the capital was down in what’s now Houston. Then they moved the capital to Austin and renamed the city after Stephen F. Austin, which is how it got its current name, but we wanted to kind of pay homage to the city of Austin and its heritage, and wanted to try to make it a mission to bring the Austin music scene as a main staple toward the world, so we decided to call ourselves Waterloo Revival.”
