Thomas Rhett is aware that a lot of country music these days has a similar vibe, uptempo with a party kind of feel, like his latest single “Get Me Some of That,” but he says he doesn’t mind the current trend because it’s what works for his audiences right now. “In my point of my career right now, if I’m not on a tour I’m playin’ clubs and the majority of my audience is a younger crowd,” says Thomas. But at the same time he knows that music is always cyclical. He says, “The cool thing about country is that it goes in waves … and there’s always room to grow. I think everybody’s tryin’ to extend the way that they write songs and say different things in different ways and, you know, there’s a lotta drum loop stuff goin’ on now, and that’s just kinda the thing goin’ now.”
Thomas isn’t worried about the current state or the future of country music because he says, “Country will always be about the story. That’s what country’s definitely geared toward and it’s always about the story and I think that people in country music, especially the fans, will always enjoy the story.” So whether the story is being told in an uptempo party song or something with a little more depth, Thomas thinks the story will always be the centerpiece of country music.
