Thomas Rhett is proud to support events like the CMA Music Festival because he believes music education in schools in important. He recalls one embarrassing story from his childhood when he wanted to learn guitar. Thomas says, “I went to band camp when I was in sixth grade and for some reason that just was not for me and I had my mom come pick me up day two into band camp.”
Growing up in Nashville though, Thomas says, “In school, I wish that we’d had more knowledge about music and I wish we’d a had more people come talk to us about the music business. When you go to school in Nashville I feel like that’s somethin’ you should at least learn about a little bit when you’re in high school, and even in college. But, now a day, I think there’s a lot more resources that kids have to be in a band or to play in instrument they want to play, and have funding to get them the instruments they wanna play. So, when I was growin’ up we really didn’t have a whole lot of that but I’m glad that that is becoming a priority today.”
The education Thomas did get while growing up, both in school and as the son of successful 90’s country singer, Rhett Akins, has been paying off for him in the form of several #1 hits and his latest hit, “Crash and Burn,” which appears to be headed to the top of the charts.
