Thomas Rhett is a great songwriter, but he says thankfully he doesn’t have to rely on his lyrics to express his emotions in his everyday life.. “Man, I’m an open book. If I’m in a bad mood, you’re gonna know. If I’m happy, you’re gonna know. And if something’s bothering I’m gonna tell ya. You can ask (my wife) Lauren, I’ve always been that way.”
His wife is the opposite, sometimes taking hours to let him in on what’s upsetting her, but Thomas says, “I can just say it, and I can put it in a song. For me to say it first, it actually comes out easier in a song. But no, I’m not one of those guys that has to express emotions through a pen and paper.”
Thomas’ latest single, “Get Me Some of That” was actually co-written by his dad Rhett Akins, Cole Swindell and Michael Carter, but he sings it so convincingly that it would be easy to believe he was in the writing room when that one was created.

“Man, I’m an open book. If I’m in a bad mood, you’re gonna know. If I’m happy, you’re gonna know. And if something’s bothering I’m gonna tell ya. You can ask Lauren, I’ve always been that way. Me and Lauren are different people. You know, when Lauren gets upset it takes her three hours to say what’s wrong. And so for me, I can just say it, and I can put it in a song. For me to say it first, it actually comes out easier in a song. But no, I’m not one of those guys that has to express emotions through a pen and paper.”
