Thomas Rhett is a prolific songwriter who has not only written some of his own hits, but he’s also written songs for other artists like Morgan Wallen, Riley Green and Dustin Lynch. But what happens when he writes a song with another artist, like “Heads Carolina,” which he co-wrote with Cole Swindell? How do they decide who gets to record the song?
Thomas Rhett – write with other artists whose song :29
“I’ve done it a couple times. I had a single on Old Dominion called ‘Some People Do,’ that me and Matt Ramsey were kinda going, ‘Hey, man, who wants to do this?’ But with Cole, it was pretty clear. You know what I mean? He had the idea. He had the vision, and he just asked me to kind of be a part of the co-write. And I think I knew from day one that this was going to be a Cole song. We’d even talked about doing like a duet of that song. But at the end of the day, I think it was always just meant for Cole. And now Cole and Jo Dee Messina. So, I think songs at the end of the end up where they’re supposed to be and that one was supposed to be in Cole’s hands for sure.”
