In Nashville, the word “gherm” (pronounced like germ, but with a hard G) is used to describe a really over-zealous fan. You can be a gherm, you can gherm someone, if you’re a celebrity you can be ghermed, etc. Even stars like Thomas Rhett have been known to be a gherm from time to time. He recalls, “I think Kristen Bell hosted the CMT Awards and after the show, I’m just a fan of her acting and I went up to her and basically treated her like some people treat me when they see me sometimes, and they’re like, ‘Man, I’m the biggest fan in the world, I’m the biggest fan…’”

Thomas doesn’t know if that totally classifies as gherming, but he says going up to a celebrity and gushing about everything you love about them, “They would probably rather talk about normal life things rather than what they do, as far as acting or anything like that.” But he says at times, “I’ve definitely been a guilty gherm.”

Thomas is preparing to release his sophomore album, which will feature his new single, “Crash and Burn,” although he hasn’t set a release date yet.
