If Tara Thompson had to describe her musical style, she says, “I think when you hear my music you hear the old school in it. You’re like, this girl listens to some old-school Country music and I have the new too. It’s old meets new, but it’s a sound I feel like you can’t really compare to anyone else, and I owe a lot to my musical influences, for sure.”
There is a long list of country stars that have influenced Tara. “I’ll start off first by sayin’ Willie Nelson, ‘cause he’s my all-time favorite,” she explains. “I look up to him so much. Everything about him I adore; his songwritin’, the soul in his voice. I love me some Merle Haggard, George Jones, Johnny Cash.”
Tara also considers Loretta Lynn, who happens to be her cousin, one of her biggest musical influences, but she says, “Not just because she’s my cousin, or the fact that she’s the Queen of Country Music, but I love how real she is and how her lyrics are just her. She sings like she talks and she’s really inspired me to be like that, ‘cause I have a lot of crazy stories that I have my own way of tellin’ ‘em and I have her to thank for that.”
Tara also loves other legendary females like Crystal Gayle, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette. You can probably hear some of those old school country influences in her debut single, “Someone to Take Your Place.”
