(AUDIO) Scott Borchetta Believes The Next American Idol Will Be Unique

Often times on singing competition shows, you hear or see singers that either sound or look like an established superstar and it’s easy to draw a comparison, but Big Machine Label Group President and CEO, Scott Borchetta, who is mentoring the contestants on this season of American Idol, believes the winner of Idol will be someone different and unique. He says, “Hopefully by the time you get to this point in the American Idol season, any slackers and any copycats are long gone. So, I think when you look at where we are now, I don’t think you really see anybody where it’s like, ‘He’s trying to be Justin Bieber, or she’s trying to be Kelly Clarkson.”

Ever since Scott signed onto American Idol back in October, he says one of the biggest things he stressed was that they weren’t looking for “the next” anybody. They want to find someone who is a unique artist and isn’t comparable to anybody who’s already out there. He says, “When you look at the diversity that we have on the show, I think we have a lot of really great flavors and the next superstar is always on the edge of the mainstream. It’s not same flavor that you already have, it’s a new flavor. It’s a new sound you hear on the radio. It’s a different look that you see on television, and I think that we have several artists who are truly individuals.”

You can see Scott mentoring the contestants on American Idol every Wednesday night on FOX.

Scott Borchetta – finding a unique artist :57
“Hopefully by the time you get to this point in the ‘American Idol’ season, any slackers and any copycats are long gone. So, I think when you look at where we are now, I don’t think you really see anybody where it’s like, ‘He’s trying to be Justin Bieber, or she’s trying to be Kelly Clarkson. I really stress individuality since I joined the show back in, basically, late October, and really tried to change the mindset, the psychology with America to understand that you don’t need the next somebody, you need first somebody, and when you look at the diversity that we have on the show, I think we have a lot of really great flavors and the next superstar is always on the edge of the mainstream. It’s not same flavor that you already have, it’s a new flavor. It’s a new sound you hear on the radio.
