(AUDIO) PLAYING SPORTS OR BEING A SPORTS FAN WAS NOT AN OPTION FOR HEATH SANDERS GROWING UP

CURRENT SINGLE: “Old School’s In

A lot of country guys were athletes before they launched their music career, but Heath Sanders, who just released his debut single, “Old School’s In,” never played sports and is not a sports fan.  “My dad’s a Pentecostal preacher, so sports were not an option,” explains Heath.  “Like, he preaches against organized sports and things. So, I took my love of activities and things to the woods.”

Being an outdoorsman was not off limits when Heath was growing up, so he spent every possible hour in the woods.  “As soon as I’d get home from school, I’d hop off that school bus,” says Heath. “My grandpa bought me a little Daisy BB gun, just a little one cock, when I was like three, and I’d grab that gun every day and I’d go hit the woods and I’d stay gone ‘til dark.”

And Heath admits he was a bit of a hellion in the woods. “I’d kill songbirds and just whatever I could, you know. But I was just a wild child. I loved to hunt and I loved to fish, and I was a sweet kid, but you give me the opportunity and I would absolutely tear the woods in Searcy County, Arkansas, plum apart.”

So, chances are you won’t find Heath catching a game on Saturday or Sunday.  “Not much of a sports fan and sports player,” he says, “but if huntin’s a sport, then I guess I’m in it just like everybody else.”
