(AUDIO) MACKENZIE CARPENTER REMEMBERS THE MOMENT THAT SPARKED HER NEW SONG, “I WISH YOU WOULD”

brand new single: “I WISH YOU WOULD” featuring Midland

Mackenzie Carpenter co-wrote every song on her debut album, Hey Country Queen, including her current single, “I Wish You Would,” featuring Midland. Thinking back on the day that song was written, Mackenzie remembers how it seemed like the day was going to be a bust with her co-writers, until one of them casually threw out the line that inspired “I Wish You Would,” which they ended up writing almost instantly.

Mackenzie Carpenter – writing I Wish You Would :50

“’I Wish You Would’ is a track that I wrote a few years ago. I wrote it with Chris Tompkins, Jamie Moore, and Jonathan Hutcherson. And the day that we were in the writers’ room, we were not really getting anywhere. We kind of started a few things, nothing was really resonating. And so, I was kind of like, ‘Okay, bathroom break. Let’s get some inspo.’ As soon as I walked out, Jamie’s like, ‘You know, what about just like, (singing) I wish, I wish, I wish you would?’ And we were like, okay, like why have you been holding out on us this whole time? And then Chris just picked up his acoustic guitar and just started playing this little like sneaky, like throwback kinda ‘Islands in the Stream’ vibe. And honestly, from that point, we probably wrote that song in like less than 30 minutes. And the cool thing about the track as it stands now is, it is my original vocal from the demo that day.”
