CURRENT SINGLE: “Summer in a Small Town”
Kidd G has been making his own music and posting it online for a while, and a lot of his early stuff was his everyday emotions set to hip hop and rap beats. This led the New York Times to label his music as “scabrous emo rap, which basically translates to rough, indecent or salacious, emotional, expressive, angst filled rap. That’s a lot, so we asked Kidd how he would describe his music, and he said, “The music I make is how I feel that day. So, I feel like I probably got the title ‘emo rap’ is because I wake up… Not everybody is in the best mood every day, but you’re not always in the worst mood. You don’t wake up with the same feeling every single day. I wake up, I do how I’m feeling. If I’m mad I’m gonna make a song about being mad, that like helps me get that anger out, because then whenever I listen to it, like it’s just my therapy. But if I’m happy then I’ll make a song happy, so whenever one day I’m feeling good, okay, I made that happy song last week.”
Whether it’s Kidd’s early leaning hip hop songs or his current country music single, “Summer in a Small Town,” the one thing all of his music has in common is that it is authentic to who he is. “I always explain the music is just me being me,” says Kidd. “I’m just focused on making records and explaining my life and hopefully people can relate.”
