current single: “HEAVENS TO BETSY”
Jackson Dean has always considered himself to be a bit of a loner. He is very comfortable being out in the middle of the woods all by himself. Before he moved to Nashville, he spent a couple of years living in an old cinderblock tack room on his grandfather’s property, with no running water and no heat or A/C, just a pot belly stove in the corner for heat during the Maryland winters. Jackson wrote a lot of songs in that tack room, which gives sort of tortured artist vibe. Did he just like the solitude, or was there an element of suffering for his art in that living situation?

“Oh yeah, sometimes in a very different way, you end up making yourself pay for it [laughs], your entire career. Yeah, some of these songs are penance. I have to sing these songs and let these emotions run through me through the rest of my career. You know? Sometimes you just need to be away because we are nothing but surrounded by people all the time.”
