Brett Young can write a great song and sing it perfectly, but he knows the most important thing with any song he sings is that he has to authentically feel it and care about it, because if he doesn’t, he can’t expect anybody listening to the song to care about it.

“I’ve always said that as a music fan, I feel the most connected to music that I feel like the artist seems connected to. I’m not gonna name the artist, but I remember I was a big fan of this guy.  I had worn out his record, and then he came to L.A. and played the El Rey Theater. And I was so fired up and I got tickets.  And his music is moving, then I went and watched the show and it felt like he was phoning it in.  He sounded great, looked great, it just felt like he didn’t care.  And I remember thinking, well if he doesn’t care, why do I care?  And so, I think me being connected to my music is step one in asking other people to feel connected to it.”
