(AUDIO) HOW ONE MESSY-HAIRED DAY AT THE BEACH CHANGED CALLISTA CLARK’S LIFE

CURRENT SINGLE: “It’s Cause I Am”

17-year-old Callista Clark has been singing since before she could talk.  As a kid, she would post videos of herself on Facebook singing various cover songs, and it turns out it was one of those videos that changed Callista’s life forever.  Callista was at the beach with her family, and her grandfather suggested she sing some Creedence Clearwater Revival for her next video.  She decided to sing “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” because she says, “That was already a special song to me because I would sing it with my siblings.”

Without a care in the world, 14-year-old Callista grabbed her guitar and pulled the song up online so she could see the lyrics and chords.  Callista laughs when she says, “My mom just kept asking me, ‘Are you sure the chords are right? Are you sure you don’t want to brush your hair, you don’t wanna change, you don’t wanna make yourself look like something?  And I was just like, ‘No, no one‘s gonna see this.’”

Fast forward three years later, and the video of Callista singing CCR has been viewed over 27 million times on Facebook alone, and she says, “That one video changed my life completely. That’s how I met my manager, Scooter Braun, and Scott Borchetta (who signed me to my record deal), and everybody that I’m working with now. So, it sounds cheesy, but one video really did change my entire life.“

We wonder if Callista’s mom will ever let her live down the fact that she was sitting cross-legged on the floor with bare feet, a tank top, shorts and uncombed hair for the video that launched her career.

Callista Clark – CCR video :55

“Well, there was a video of mine, I was singing ‘Have You Ever Seen the Rain’ by Creedence Clearwater Revival. That was already a special song to me because I would sing it with my siblings. And, we were at the beach one summer and my granddad was telling me that I should bring back CCR for my video. I just remember thinking, ‘Okay, sure. I’ll do that.’  And I pulled up ‘Have You Ever Seen the Rain,’ and my mom just kept asking me, ‘Are you sure the chords are right? Are you sure you don’t want to brush your hair, you don’t wanna change, you don’t wanna make yourself look like something?  And I was just like, ‘No, no one‘s gonna see this.’  And now, it has around 27 million views on Facebook, and that one video changed my life completely. That’s how I met my manager, Scooter Braun, and Scott Borchetta, and everybody that I’m working with now. So, it sounds cheesy, but one video really did change my entire life.“
