(AUDIO) GREYLAN JAMES TURNED A ‘NO’ ON THE VOICE INTO A SUCCESSFUL CAREER

debut single: “WAIT TIL YOU HAVE KIDS

A little-known fact about Greylan James is that he made a very brief appearance on the NBC show The Voice. His time on Season 4 was short-lived because he didn’t get any chairs to turn during his blind audition. Now, of course, as an ACM Song of the Year winner for co-writing Jordan Davis’ “Next Thing You Know,” having his debut single, “Wait Til You Have Kids” on the radio, and having songs he’s written recorded by Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton, Chris Young, Cole Swindell and others, Greylan is living proof that being told no when you’re chasing your dream does not define you, and the only thing that really matters is what you do after you hear that no.

Greylan James – experience on The Voice :35

“It felt like a roadblock at the time, but it was just a massive learning point. Because up until that point, it was all just a dream, and everything felt like it was just kind of working itself out. I’d never been out of the state of Tennessee. And I was 14 or 15 when I was on that show. And so, I flew out there and it literally felt like a whirlwind, but that was the first ‘no’ that I heard. That was the first like, ‘oh my gosh, you’re not good enough’ that I’d had. And it definitely did feel like a wake up call. And then, it was like, okay, do you want to do this or not? And I just knew I had to get better. And so, I just got home and locked myself in my room at my parents’ house and just practiced every single day. Tried to learn how to write songs and just watched every video I could from my idols and tried to get better.”
