debut single: “WAIT TIL YOU HAVE KIDS”
Greylan James got his start in Nashville as a songwriter, writing songs that were recorded by the likes of Kenny Chesney, Cole Swindell, Blake Shelton, Chris Young, and of course, Jordan Davis, who recorded “Next Thing You Know,” which earned Greylan and his co-writers the ACM Song of the Year award. So naturally, when Greylan and Matt Roy wrote “Wait Til You Have Kids,” he assumed someone else would record it, but fortunately, some people on Greylan’s team stepped in and had other plans.
Greylan James – thought Wait was for someone else :28
“We wrote that song, honestly, thinking somebody else would record it. And then, it just really spoke to me for some reason, even though I don’t have a family yet. It really hit me in a different way. And I sent it to my label and they were like, ‘Oh my gosh, don’t let anybody else hear that song. You need to record it.’ And so, I kinda just held it back and was waitin’ on the right time. And I was home over the holidays with my parents and I played it for ‘em, and I teased the first little teaser on TikTok of me playin’ it for my mom and it just blew up. I mean, it really exploded, and I knew I needed to put that song out. So, it’s been a crazy journey.”
