CURRENT SINGLE: “Gave It Back Broken”
Callista Clark has taught herself to play eight different instruments, including acoustic and electric guitar, piano, banjo, mandolin and bass guitar, but when it comes to what she uses to write songs, like her new single, “Gave It Back Broken,” Callista says, “My main instrument that I write on is usually a guitar. I usually stick with acoustic. With my acoustics, they all are there for different things.”
One of Callista’s most treasured acoustic guitars is her silver and purple sparkly guitar, which is a baby Taylor given to her by her great granddad, which she had covered in sparkles. That guitar gets used occasionally to write songs. “With my sparkly one, it’s the best one for a vibey kind of sparkly day,” explains Callista. “If I’m in that kind of a mood, if I wanna write that kind of a song, that’s the one I go with. But other than that, I pretty much just stick with my new Gibson that I got.”
Every once in a while Callista will write a song using one of the other instruments she knows how to play, especially if she’s in need of inspiration. She says, “If I ever get stuck on a song and I can’t quite figure something out, then I might go from guitar to piano or something.”
