(AUDIO) Scott Borchetta Shares The One Quality He Thinks The American Idol Must Have

BMLG President and CEO Scott Borchetta is the mentor on this season of American Idol, which means he gets to work closely with all of the contestants, trying to give them constructive criticism and guidance to move them one step closer to becoming the next American Idol. The crop of talent this season is pretty strong, but Scott says if he had to pick just one thing that he thinks will set the winner apart, it’s the ability to connect with the audience. He says, “As much as anything, you’ve got to be able to engage through that TV camera and go into the living rooms of millions of people and have them run towards you. And so, I think if I had to say the one most important element in this type of environment, is engagement.”

You can see new episodes of American Idol every Wednesday night at 8pm ET/7pm CT on FOX. This Wednesday, April 15th, the competition will be narrowed down to the Top 6.

“I don’t know if it’s just one thing. You’ve gotta be consistently great, and I think we have several who have been consistently great, but it’s the connection. As much as anything, you’ve got to be able to engage through that TV camera and go into the living rooms of millions of people and have them run towards you. And so, I think if I had to say the one most important element in this type of environment, is engagement.”
