Thomas Rhett is nominated for New Artist of the Year at this year’s CMA Awards and he is both nervous and excited about attending Wednesday night’s show. “I’m excited just to be nominated in that category and to know that you actually are in the category and are actually gonna be on the show, and I guess America’s gonna see your name pop up on the screen when they announce the New Artist of the Year nominees,” says Thomas.
At the same time he’s nervous just to know how it’s all gonna turn out because he’s friends with his fellow nominees. Thomas explains, “Me and Cole have gotten to become really good friends, and me and Kip are good friends and me and Brett are good friends, and I’ve gotten to know Brandy a little bit over the past couple years. So to be sittin’ there all in a row with people you share on the road memories with and all a sudden you’re in competition with each other, it’s a little bit of a strange thing but at the same time, we couldn’t be in a cooler genre’ ‘cause we all just kinda pull for each other.”
Thomas, whose latest single, “Make Me Wanna,” is top 30 and climbing, says of course he wants to win, “But whatever happens you’re happy for the other person that did win. So, it’s gonna be a nerve-racking fun night.”
The 48th Annual CMA Awards will air this Wednesday night at 8pm ET/7pm CT on ABC.

“I was in Canada. I was in Toronto, and I didn’t have any cell service on my phone and I didn’t have any Internet either, so I had to make a phone call from my hotel room and I called my manager and she was watching it on TV, and so the way I found out was she put the phone up to the TV and we just both listened live together. And it was in alphabetical order and you know my name starts with the a “T” so I was toward the tail end of that list and I was like, ‘Oh Lord, we didn’t get in’ and you know, they did call my name and then it was one of the coolest things in the world. Not being able to watch it on TV, but listenin’ to it over the phone and to be in that category with some of your really good friends is a good competitive thing to be in. It’s gonna be fun to be there that night and I’m just gonna soak it in and enjoy it no matter what happens.”

Thomas Rhett will score great seats for him and his wife Lauren for the 48th Annual CMA Awards this week as he is a first time nominee on Wednesday (11/5). On Friday (10/31), the couple dressed up as characters from Harry Potter for Halloween.
