Thomas Rhett is a fan of all kinds of music, including hip hop, and he says, “I think that the biggest thing that hip hop did for me was kinda teach me how to groove a little bit. You know, country fans, I know that they’re very based on lyrics but if you can’t move to a song, if you can’t find some kinda way to sway, then you need to find some swagger.”
If you’ve ever seen Thomas live in concert, then you know he definitely has swagger in his stage presence, but he says hip hop has also had an influence on his songwriting and being able to connect with today’s younger country music fans. “I think what hip hop did for me was kinda teach me how to write country lyrics over a really kinda hip hoppy beat,” says Thomas. “It just brings kinda life and some fun and energy to a show and to a record.”
You’ll be able to hear a little bit of that hip hop influence in the groove of Thomas’ new single, “Make Me Wanna.”
