Valentine’s Day is a special day for Brett Young because it’s the day he proposed to his wife, although Brett explains how his plan wasn’t quite the perfect, romantic surprise he had planned.

Brett Young – proposal not as smooth as hoped :53

“Valentine’s Day fell like on a Wednesday that year, and I was playing the Mississippi rodeo that day in Jackson. And so, I thought, this’ll be cool. What I’ll do is, she’ll obviously not want to get engaged or have our Valentine’s dinner at the rodeo.  So, what I’ll do is, we’re playing Oxford, where I went to school at Ole Miss, that weekend. I’ll just say, ‘Hey, why don’t we put our Valentine’s dinner off for a couple days, do it on the weekend in Oxford.’ And that was supposed to be just throwing off the Valentine’s thing, and then I was gonna propose, and she wouldn’t see that coming. I had it all set up at The Graduate Hotel there in Oxford. But when I said that to her she was like, ‘Oh, so you just don’t want to celebrate Valentine’s Day? I got it. Cool.’  And I was like, ‘No, no, no, no, no!’ And I kept trying to pull my foot out of my mouth, even though it wasn’t. It was all planned, and she just felt like it was me trying to blow off Valentine’s Day. So, I had to kind of give away part of the plan in order to keep her from being upset with me. So, it didn’t go as smoothly as I wanted it to. But, you know, we got it done.”
