As a father of four young kids, and soon to be five, Thomas Rhett says fatherhood has definitely had an impact on his songwriting and the subject matters that he chooses to write about. He’s more conscious in general that his kids are always watching and always listening to what daddy says and sings about.

“Yeah, I worry about it daily, especially when I’m taking my kids to school. Like what are they talking about to their teachers that their daddy has said or that daddy has sung or what did daddy do on an awards show that was goofy or something, you know what I mean? So, it has definitely made me really be cautious about what I say on my records, you know, content-wise and always just kind of making sure they understand that some things are playful, some things are serious. It doesn’t mean that you have to go to school and talk about like, my dad singing beer drinking songs or whatever, which I think the teachers would laugh anyway. But yeah, it has kinda altered the way that I write a little bit for sure in the last couple years.”
