current single: “AFTER ALL THE BARS ARE CLOSED”
Thomas Rhett’s sound in country music has ranged from traditional sounding country to more dance/pop sounding songs, to songs with R&B tendencies and even some rock vibes. And while some people think country music should sound a certain way and stay in a certain lane, Thomas loves the wide spectrum of sounds in country music today, and he’s proud that one of his songs or his sound might be the gateway to someone becoming a new fan of country music.
Thomas Rhett – diversity in country music :40
“I would say most every show we do, there’s people that come through meet and greet going, ‘Man, you were what got me into country music,’ or an opener we have on tour being like, ‘Man, I heard that person’s song and it made me want to dive into country music a whole lot deeper.’ And I think the genre has always been about how do we expand it? How do we grow it? And that could mean taking it back to the 50s and the 60s when country music doesn’t sound that way today, or when it starts to sound very classic or very old school, doing something a little bit new. And, you know, I think if we always stay the same, if everybody tries to do the exact same thing that there’s zero diversity in our genre, I think that could get boring. And so, I’m kinda all for people just being themselves and doin’ what they do best. I think that’s what makes our genre just so diverse and gives you a lot of different things to listen to.”
