The CMA Fest Presented by SoFi primetime special will air this Thursday night (6/26) on ABC, and even though Thomas Rhett has performed at the festival many years, and even hosted the primetime special in the past, some of his favorite CMA Fest memories happened when he was watching his friends perform before he could have ever imagined they’d become his friends.

“You know, I think the hunt that I used to go on in high school for the cheapest tickets that I could find are good memories to me. You know, my buddies in high school and college would always try to go find as many tickets as we could and just fill out the nosebleeds and get to watch. Eric Church was always my favorite to come watch, and Aldean and Luke, and this is before I knew any of these guys. And so, to be playing it now and have my heroes become my friends has been a pretty odd full circle thing.”
