DEBUT SINGLE: “It’s Cause I Am”
At 17 year old, Callista Clark is a triple threat ready to show the world what she’s got, with the release of her debut single, “It’s Cause I Am.” Not only does Callista have an incredible voice that defies her age, but she self-taught herself how to play eight different instruments, and she co-wrote all the songs on her debut EP, Real To Me, including “It’s Cause I Am.” Callista says, “’It’s Cause I Am’ is my girl power song. It definitely is. It’s one of my favorites because it can be to any person that you want to put in their place.”
In the song she’s singing to a romantic interest, but truth be told, it was an encounter of a different kind that inspired her to write the song. “I was thinking about people that doubted me for my dreams and what I want to do with my life and this career,” explains Callista. “And I was thinking about, there was one day I was in a Starbucks and I was carrying my guitar, and this guy just looked at me, and he goes, ‘Pfft, good luck.’ And I just turned around and was like, ‘Thank you.’ And I just remembered that feeling when I was writing this song – just telling anybody off. Just don’t waste my time, you know. It’s like, if I seem too complicated for you, it’s cause I am.”
If only that guy in Starbucks could see Callista now. She could thank him for inspiring her debut single.
