When Sam Backoff of Avenue Beat was growing up, her mom worked at the Illinois Veterans Home, and she says, “We used to go and play for all the veterans out there. That was really cool.”
Besides singing, they would talk to the residents and hear their incredible stories of bravery and service, and Sam says, “It’s really inspiring to get to meet some of them and talk to them and hear their stories. I guess I just feel really lucky that we have people that are so committed to helping the country that they are gonna put their lives at risk for us.”
Sam knows that it’s because of those sacrifices made by our military, that she and her two best friends in Avenue Beat, are able to pursue their dreams and create songs, like their debut single, “Ruin that for Me,” for a living.
