Avenue Beat consists of three best friends, Sam, Savana and Sami. Sam and Savana grew up together and have been friends from the time they were in diapers. Sami came along when they were teenagers, and she admits she became part of the trio by telling a bit of a white lie. “They had been making YouTube covers for like, about a year before I ever knew them,” Sami explains. “And I really wanted to be their friend, really, really bad.” Barely able to contain her laughter she continues, “So I commented … I commented on one of the videos, ‘Hey guys, you sound great. Hit me up if you ever need a piano player.’”
There was only one problem with her offer … Sami doesn’t know how to play piano. But she says proudly, “They did hit me up and I’m here now. So, who’s the real winner?”
Despite not knowing how to play piano, Sami fit right into Sam and Savana’s quirky, honest, relatable vibe, which led to writing a lot of great songs that showcase their harmonies, including their debut single, “Ruin That for Me.” They also just released a six-song EP called Quarantine Covers, featuring their take on songs from people like John Mayer, Tim McGraw and India Arie, which is available wherever you stream or download your music.
