(AUDIO) JENNIFER NETTLES BELIEVES COUNTRY MUSIC IS BEST AT SPEAKING TO AND ABOUT LIFE’S BROKENNESS

Jennifer Nettles knows that some people have some cliché ideas about country music.  She says, “People make fun of it and they say oh it’s about your dog dying and your truck breakin’ down and your wife leaving you. But really what that’s doing is celebrating the brokenness of everyday life.”

Just like with her new song, “I Can Do Hard Things,” Jennifer believes country music is the best at addressing life’s imperfections and realities, and she says, “I think we need to not be afraid of that because that’s where the healing is going to happen. You know, it’s like Rumi that says, ‘Light enters at the wound,’ and I think that part of country music is so important, and that part of all art is important, but I think country music does it especially well.”

“I Can Do Hard Things” is about the strength of a woman and the acknowledgement of the reality that they don’t necessarily love every aspect of being a woman, a mother, a wife, but that’s okay.

Jennifer Nettles – country music celebrating brokenness

“I think what country music does better than any other genre is celebrate brokenness. People make fun of it and they say oh it’s about your dog dying and your truck breakin’ down and your wife leaving you. But really what that’s doing is celebrating the brokenness of everyday life. And I think we need to not be afraid of that because that’s where the healing is going to happen. You know, it’s like Rumi that says, ‘Light enters at the wound,’ and I think that part of country music is so important, and that part of all art is important, but I think country music does it especially well.”
