Some people might consider the term “hillbilly” to be a negative thing, but Tara Thompson is proud to be a hillbilly. She says, “Where I’m from a hillbilly is most definitely not a derogatory term. If anything it’s a term we’re very proud of. My favorite definition of hillbilly is actually in the dictionary. It says, ‘An old fashioned term for Country music’.”
Tara, whose debut single is “Someone to Take Your Place,” says that definition and a few other things are what she considers a hillbilly. “You know, we live in the hills, we’re hillbillies, we drink moonshine and we do all sorts of country stuff and we’re old school,” says Tara. “So, I would definitely say I am very proud to be a hillbilly from East Tennessee.”
